No Sleep till Brooklyn: The Real World
Californication last night,
the Real World Brooklyn tonight.
Why Brooklyn, you ask? Jon Murray, co-creator of The Real World, and Chairman and President of Bunim-Murray Productions, explains: “The Brooklyn season, like the Hollywood season, will focus on what people loved about ‘The Real World’ when it launched in 1992 – genuine people, meaningful conflict and powerful stories…” I don’t remember the Hollywood season being about genuine people or meaningful conflict or anything, but whatever. After watching the first two episodes of the RW Brooklyn, I’ll definitely watch the next few.
This season there are 8 cast members (when there are usually 7) and I feel like that alone may help things balance out better. And surprisingly, there aren’t too many fake tits or bad dye jobs this time around – the cast really does seem a little more ‘real’ than it has in a while. I’m loving MTV for bringing a transgendered girl into the house and I’m already falling for JD, although he obviously needs to loosen up. Also, the cast members weren’t given a specific dream job, but supposedly volunteer at a LGBT Community Center, which will benefit them much more than some fake job at a radio station ever could.
I guess we’ll just have to see how the season unfolds. Are you watching this season? What do you think of it so far?
