Like a moth to a flame, so am I to suede heelsThe streets of New York City are treacherous to soft designer suede and still I can’t help but fall for them. A primary example? The new crop of Manolo Blahniks that just arrived at Barneys.

Unlike most material, really nice suede adds just enough textural interest to a look without overpowering it. Suede never steals the spotlight the way sequins or pailettes can; it has a warming effect, opposite of waxed or patent leather, which always seems to melt my heart and open my wallet.

I’ve obviously had my fair share of suede over the years – Prada suede kitten heels, Sergio Rossi studded suede flats, work-appropriate suede from Theory, 4 inch tie-dyed suede mary janes from Miu Miu – but I believe these new Manolo pumps might be a worth-while investment.

Think about it: primary colors can be combined to make a useful range of colors, right? So perhaps having a brilliant range of primary colored new suede pumps in my closet will be just what I need to kick up my entire wardrobe for the spring season! I know, I know. I’m not fooling anyone – not even myself. Oh well.
