Nicole Romano Event for Fashion's Night Out

I will be at Nicole Romano’s event during Fashion’s Night Out and you better be as well. Seriously – get all dressed up, wear some killer jewelry (or pick some up at Nicole’s store), enjoy some free wine, and be filmed for the designer’s upcoming Japanese fashion documentary.

Want to know more about Fashion’s Night Out, read my recent articles (here & here) on it for StyledOn…

Little Miss Bradshaw is Back

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

0901sex and the city2 full fa Little Miss Bradshaw is BackWell guys, the second Sex and the City movie has just begun filming. And although I don’t necessarily think there should be a second movie, I was still super excited to see the first images of Carrie leaked onto the web just now!

Wearing a simple ivory sheath, gold Chanel clutch, what appears to be leopard Louboutins (could be sequined?), gold mirrored sunnies, and a great statement necklace, our leading lady is looking fine. Mr Big – I mean, John – had better behave.

While this look is definitely one I would rock, I can’t wait for some of the more extreme fashion moments that you know are sure to come! Waiting for the shots of crazy OTK printed boots (or maybe the editorially-awesome laser-cut Stella McCartneys), some huge fur, an insane hat or two, Minx Nails, a new belt to lust after, crazy jewelry, and hopefully an epic battle of prints. Come on, Patricia Field, answer my prayers.

Sex and the City 2 is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2010 – start planning your outfits now, girls!

For more fabulous images of Carrie’s upcoming outfits, visit Tom & Lorenzo’s blog…

Love or Loathe: Alexander Wang’s Vest/Bag

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

screenshot 03 150x300 Love or Loathe: Alexander Wangs Vest/BagI am all for designer collaborations, marriages, and the combination of cookie dough and chocolate chip cookies, but this vest/bag from Alexander Wang – well, this I’m not so sure of.

I love most everything Wang does, but this just seems a little too downtown for me. Perhaps if I were going to Coachella I would pair this with a simple white tank, some cutoffs, and my Hunter wellies. Who knows.

I’m sure plenty of people are dying over it right now and that Rumi will be rocking it soon on Fashion Toast, styling it over a white slip hanging lithely on her slim frame…

Personally, I’d rather take the $850 and add it to my OTK boot fund or to feed the need for Chloe’s Paraty seen below. What do you guys think? Love it or loathe it??

BTW – I’m taking ‘no comments’ as loathe.

Mr Darcy, Even Better Looking Than Before…

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

couture classics Mr Darcy, Even Better Looking Than Before... It may true be that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife, but it may also be true that a good woman with a pension for the classics, is in want of book covers that mirror the quality of the words inside.

I’ve long been a fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (the book as well as the A&E version), but my love for it has just been rekindled with the release of Ruben Toledo’s couture-inspired book cover. Gorgeously drawn with oil, watercolor and pencil, the cover instantly modernizes the beloved classic, making it even more desirable than before.

Toledo has also created killer covers for the, in my opinion, less enjoyable reads of The Scarlet Letter and Wuthering Heights. Buy them all here for $16 a pop.

Today, I Die. The Rachel Zoe Project is Back.

Monday, August 24th, 2009

velvet nico Today, I Die. The Rachel Zoe Project is Back.Alright all you fashionistas, listen up: Today (Monday), the second season of The Rachel Zoe Project premiers on Bravo at 10pm.

Although I don’t enjoy the show quite as much as the Real Housewives of New Jersey, the RZP is totally up there in my book. I love everything about the show and the shots of the fashion are just the glittering frosting coating it all.

So strap on a pair of your most fabulous, don some vintage bling, and stick a bow tie on a boy – this guarantees to be bananas. Can’t hardly wait.

The Current Lust List – What I’m Yearning For

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

So we have a wonderful new puppy, and while I’m truly, madly, deeply in love with him,
alas, my heart still yearns for more:

Balmain leather jacket fall 2009

Balmain’s ridiculously chic (and expensive (and sold-out)) Leather Motorcycle Jacket

Prada Over-the-Knee Boot Fall 2009

Prada’s practically perfect Over-the-Knee Boots

Mr. Wiggles Sculpture | Black Edition, 2008, Tara McPherson

Mr. Wiggles Sculpture | Black Edition, 2008, Tara McPherson at KidRobot (of course)

Rhino Bookends at Barneys

Barneys’ Rhino Bookends – although there isn’t enough room on my shelves for the actual books themselves, so I don’t know how this would ever work…

West Villiage Loft by Daniel Frisch

West Villiage Loft by Daniel Frisch. High ceilings, a suspended library above the kitchen… just needs some good artwork and huge walk-in closets.

Lanvin Quilted Amalia Bag

The very violet quilted Amalia Bag by Lanvin (although I’m really crushing on Lanvin’s entire handbag collection a ton right now)

M.I.A.

Monday, July 6th, 2009

So I’ve completely abandoned my darling blog for the past 1o days. And although I’m sure I’ve lost my entire readership during these recent days, I’m ready now to play a bit of catch up…here is a glimpse of things I’ve already done, but haven’t told you about yet (and plan to do so in the near future):

  • had my hair colored by the fabulous Joel Warren at his salon (Warren-Tricomi) at the Plaza Hotel – I am now a hot blond
  • had silver mirrored Minx Nails applied at ‘Cure Beauty Bar and for eight whole days my nails were as fabulous as Lady Gaga’s, Beyonce’s, and Rihanna’s
  • went to the Invader opening at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery [rubix cube + album covers = art]
  • fell in love with The High Line
  • saw the hoppin’ frog exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History
  • found a great bikini top at Victoria’s Secret for just $14
  • discovered new addictive apps for my iPhone (while getting a lovely sunburn)
  • came up with a great idea that will make me rich enough to wear Lanvin every day

What have you been up to? Oh right. You all stopped reading my blog by now. Boo.

Oh, Stupid Fashion People

Monday, June 15th, 2009

In his post last week, Alex Bilmes at UK’s GQ, had a lot to say about Beth Ditto (the cover girl from Katie Grand’s premier issue of LOVE) and stupid fashion people. I can’t say that I disagree with him…

Beth Ditto is a fat lesbian. She’s also a fashion “icon”. Hilarious, isn’t it? I love fashion people, I really do. They’re so… how do I put this? Stupid? Yes, that’s it. They’re so stupid. Here’s what happened: stung by criticism of their unhealthy obsession with rexy supermodels, they hit back by lionising a pathologically exhibitionist 16 stone woman from Arkansas. Clever, huh? That’ll get the feminazis off their case. How can anyone say they only promote thin women when they are so enamoured of a porker like her?

The fact that Beth Ditto is morbidly obese, and therefore arguably just as bad an example to young women as a girl ten stone lighter than her, seems to have escaped their notice. Meanwhile, girls who fall between the two extremes - pretty much every vaguely healthy woman on the planet - are still routinely dismissed as being not interesting or beautiful enough to be photographed for a women’s magazine.

The poor fashion industry – no matter how clever we think we are, we just get slammed left and right. Sucks being pretty.

Making the Cut: “New” Summer Shorts

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

diy jean shorts Making the Cut: New Summer Shorts

About four years ago I bought an amazing pair of jean capris by 7 for All Mankind that I used to get complements on all of the time. I tried them on again last week and…well, not so fabulous.

While the fit was still great, the style was just all wrong. I used to love the length, but now the capri cut just looks a little too ‘mommy’ and doesn’t do a thing to flatter my frame. Realizing that I’d never wear those jeans as they were, I attacked those poor jeans today in a diy (do-it-yourself) that resulted in a great “new” pair of chic summer shorts.

Not your typical cut-offs, these are more refined and will definitely be put to good use this summer. I’m planning on wearing mine with heels and dressier tanks, blouses, and longer blazers for a look that is casual yet sophisticated. See below for a step-by-step and go ahead, do it yourself too!

Um, No. Harem Pants are not Sexy.

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

00050m Um, No. Harem Pants are not Sexy.Melissa Magsaysay of the LA Times is convinced that harem pants can be sexy - I am not.

In her article, Magsaysay states, “When harem pants came down the runways at Chloé and Alexander McQueen for spring 2009, they somehow glided past the cartoony pop culture associations (Barbara Eden’s Jeannie in the ’60s, MC Hammer’s ’80s gold) to help define summer’s effortlessly slouchy look.”

She acknowledges the fact that they are hideously unattractive, sighting that “[t]hey tend to make the hips, rear and thighs look larger while making legs seem shorter,” but then insists that we give them a try as they (her words, not mine) “are a great way to mix up the predictable pieces of the season and add something daring to a wardrobe.”

I have never understood the appeal of harem pant and I never, ever will. The name is awful and the design is even worse. A cross between a skirt and a pair of cigarette pants, the harem is made for comfort, if anything. The legs, from the knees down, are fitted, while the crotch area is loose and baggy as it it were cut to be a skirt. This style of trouser was customarily worn by Peruvian women until about 1890, when the ruler Nair-Ne-Din saw a Parisian ballet, came to his senses, and ordered all women to wear short skirts in place of these shalwar pants. Revived by MC Hammer in the 1980s, the dreadful style seems 2 legit 2 quit.

Magsaysay insists that “[y]ou can make these pants look chic and flattering — it’s all a matter of balancing proportions and adding the right accessories so the statement is bold, not ‘I Dream of Jeannie.’” Well, no offense, but it is always a matter or balancing proportions and adding the right accessories when it comes to styling.

I guess I’m just really confused as to why the piece ever ran…the accompaying images don’t do anything to covince me of the style’s allure, which they should have, but whatever – this isn’t the NY Times, so I’ll just let it go. Lets leave this style on the runway. If you really want to add something ‘daring’ to your wardrobe, please by a pair of heels from Nicholas Kirkwood instead.
