new favorite tanks – leslie fremar for fruit of the loom

April 25th, 2012

I’m addicted to Kain Label tees and tanks, but spending $90 for such a basic cotton piece has always seemed a bit steep… Happily (and completely by accident), I tried on Leslie Fremar for Fruit of the Loom tanks in Bloomingdales last weekend and found not only a fantastic fit, but a price to match at 3 for $50.

The traditional tank is bra-friendly, hits right below for pelvis, and comes in a just-sheer-enough cotton blend, which I love love love. The racerback tank features thinner straps, super-tiny ribbed opaque cotton, and is super flattering to the upper body (instant swimmer’s body, anyone?) and has a rough, scooped hem reminiscent of those from Rick Owens. Each styles comes in basic black, white and gray – and I want at least one of each. Apparently they are only available in select Bloomingdales so look for them when you’re in-store next. I highly recommend.

Oh, and who is Leslie Fremar? She’s a maje celeb stylist who landed in the #2 spot on the Hollywood Report’s list this year. Her clients include Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson… you know, girls like you and I.

And to mark the occasion, there is (of course) yet another video making fun of all the #shitfashiongirls say… so much to love about this.

fembots have feelings too…

I’ve been a fan of designer LaQuan Smith for a while now and find both his work and personality refreshing and colorful. I’m also on a major Robyn kick, thanks to Emily (whom I work with and depend on for basically all my music needs). Annnnnd so, watching LaQuan’s latest video for his Fall 2012 collection Robotic Dream set the Robyn’s song Fembot, basically made my day.

gucci zebra dorsay pumps head over heels for gucci

I’m fairly ride or die when it comes to heels – especially printed, patterned, and graphic pumps. Of what I currently own, my faves are printed Prada and Roger Vivier, but I’m dying to go a bit more sexy this season with Gucci’s zebra hair calf d’Orsday pumps. Black and white (another huge weakness of mine), these babies will be worn with everything from colored jeans to floral print dresses a la the campaign shot, which is currently plastered on my inspiration wall at the office. $695 isn’t free though…what’s a girl to do?

on love

February 14th, 2012

Because it is Valentine’s Day, a list of things I love:

  • My family – and of course my son most of all who finds an unbelievable amount of comfort in knowing that he was an egg in me when I was an egg in my mother and that we’ve been together forever
  • My friends – the ones who really listen, don’t care what I’m wearing, are supportive, loyal, and always up for a good time
  • Passion, both yours and mine
  • Art, be it on the street or in the Met
  • My nook along with science fiction and fantasy novels, which allow me to escape the city even while on a crowded 6 train
  • Real vacations
  • Inspiring conversations
  • Comfort food (coffee, donuts, lasagna, Chipotle), good food, and better wine
  • Being in love…which hopefully I’ll experience once again soon

And also, a list of several things that inspire me to keep my heart open (which isn’t always the easiest):

  • Good first dates. Just as bad dates have the ability to turn me completely off to the dating scene for months, good dates (and my memories of them) always manage to get me back in my heels, into a cab, and out on another first date once again. I mean, I’m single and I’m awesome…surely, there must be at least a few guys worth meeting out there too.
  • Engagements – the simple idea of one person proposing to another is so beautiful, so scary, so romantic, and just all around amazing. It is eternally inspiring.
  • That overall lovin’ feeling
  • Beautiful footwear… just kidding (sort of)
