So I just ran into the GAP on Lexington between 58th/59th Streets and although they are not displaying the CFDA collections until tomorrow, they will let you shop it now if you ask very nicely.

I tried on quite a few pieces from the collection and as predicted, Alexander Wang’s Motorcycle Jacket was my fave. The material is much softer than I expected and all of the hardware looked good as well. The entire collection actually runs a bit small too – the Vena Cava dresses seem as if they have been graded for the petite customer. Nothing is over $88 and I have to admit that even the hats are pretty adorable.

Instead of reading this review, you should really go to your local store and shop the collection early before all of the sizes vanish for good – oh, everything is available online as well. Happy hunting!

Remember when I wrote about my darling friend Anly buying her first pair of designer heels in The City Girl and her Sandals?

Well, she’s subsequently bought more (including a pair of thigh-high black suede Jimmy Choo boots), but after a summer (and fall) of serious wear and tear, her dear Christian Louboutins weren’t looking quite as red hot as before. So what’s a girl to do? Take them to the spa, of course – Leather Spa to be exact. Here’s her account of what exactly went down:

Verdict: So expensive but SO worth it, they look like brand new! They even fixed the front where the leather had been torn b/c I had worn the sole down so badly.

Just watched Lars and the Real Girl and loved it.
Interesting, touching, and sweet, this movie was not at all what I thought it would be. I ended up caring about, and genuinely appreciating, Bianca (the blow-up doll) who is bound to a wheelchair, attends church, volunteers in the library, etc. I think all boys who have problems expressing their emotions and dealing with reality should watch this movie immediately.

Let’s put it this way: It was so good that I stopped looking at the new shoe selection at Barneys online. Netflix it now.

The most amazing show of the Fall 08 Couture season is easily the one designed and presented by Christian Lacroix. Over the top, other-worldly, and off the charts – this show is everything we want from the fantasy world of fashion couture.

The first look – sent out on Vlada – a gorgeously embellished black breast-piece paired with a white ruffled tulle skirt, is slightly reminiscent of Proenza Schouler Spring 08, and indeed set the mood for the lavish show to follow. Crystal-laced brocade, matador jackets, beautiful lace skirts paired with lace tights, and even red and pink prints contrasted with one another never looked so perfect.

Everything about this collection is beautiful, but couture is like Murakami (which I finally saw over at the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday) and should be appreciated first in full, and then through the details. The deeply decadent dark rainbow of gowns were especially breathtaking, but what really makes this show such a show are the delicate lace masks, pieced-out mohawks, folded velvet and satin ribbons, feathered collars, delicately beaded purses, beyond-expert draping, and so much more.

Edwardian at times and pure fantasy, this is the kind of show that makes me want to burn all of my tanks and jeans.

Z asked if I know anyone who actually wears couture and the answer, of course, is no. Couture runs something like $100,000 a piece and no ‘real’ people spend that kind of money on a single piece of clothing – although, if one day I happen to miraculously become the daughter of the Sultan of Brunei, worth $22 billion according to Forbes, I promise to support Mr. Lacroix excessively.

Also noteworthy about this show, audience members Helen Mirren and Janet Jackson. Sort of an interesting crowd, no?

I first heard Heidi Montag’s new single ‘Fashion’ a week or so ago on E!, I thought the same thing as everyone else – OH MY GOD.

For whatever reason, I was on PerezHilton.com today and ended up listening to the song once more – realizing that not only is this a terrible song, but that it is the worse pr plug any designer could ever have. If were a designer mentioned in this song, I would sue her. And can she even recognize Alexander McQueen?! She’s trying to do something funny and fabulous like Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’, but she’s just too lame.

Diane von Furstenberg just sent out a drop-dead gorgeous resort ’09 collection, named La Petite Valise, on an Astroturf-covered runway in the private Giardino Torrigiana in Florence, Italy.

There was lots of black and white (which I love), sunny yellow, pretty prints (inspired by the well-stamped pages of von Furstenberg’s own passport)…and there were even flowers in the girls’ hair.

To be honest with you, this was the first resort show that I wanted to look at from the first look to the last – perhaps that’s because Diane von Furstenberg is one woman who clearly knows how to pack for a fabulous getaway and understands what the ‘resort’ season is all about (although you really can’t go wrong when Natalia Vordianova opens for you either). There were tight-waisted sundresses with ribbon-trimmed swirling skirts; great ruched, fifties-style swimwear; and just scores and scores of pretty frocks. I also loved the easy cardigans worn open over the dresses.

Not only were the clothes gorgeous, but so were the girls! They all looked so happy and healthy – just the kind of girls you want to live happily ever after with. And although I wasn’t into it in Glamour’s July issue, I’m really loving the coral lips in this show! I’m even leafing back through Glamour’s guide right now – they consider coral the most flattering color you’ll ever put on – and after this show, I’m starting to agree with them.

During my lunch break today, I headed over to Barnes & Noble and the minute I walked in – BAM – there it was, staring right at me, the book: Sex and the City: The Movie.

I walked right over to it and immediately picked it up, opened the cover, took a quick peek, and smiled. It’s basically the book I’ve been waiting my whole life for – not really, but you know what I mean. I loved loved loved the movie – read my Sex and the City: The Movie: The Review if you haven’t already – and this book just brings back each and every moment all over again.

A book for the true Sex and the City lovers, the lovers of fashion, lovers of Patricia Fields, lovers of Manolos…lovers in general. Millions of pictures, touching & memorable quotes, and little tid-bits of information: Did you know that the studded belt Carrie wears throughout the movie was named ‘Roger’ by the costume department? Neither did I.

It took 176 pages of one book to put down countless great moments of the movie, which brought together six fabulous seasons that millions know and love.

I bought it for $30 because I have no impulse control, but you’ll save $12 if you buy Sex and the City: The Movie: The Book here…just think, after that savings you only need $600 more and you’ve got a new pair of Manolos.

I don’t have too many posts on this blog yet, but I do have at least two recent ones about SATC…Now, this isn’t supposed to be a SATC blog – and I’ve actually been trying very hard to limit my entries about it, but hey, you write what you know and you write what you love.

Anyway, I saw Sex and the City: The Movie last night and fell in love with the whole show all over again. I entered the theater with good friends and my darling boyfriend, wearing a big silk flower pin and (as my son calls them) my “fancy shoes,” light pink satin Valentino heels complete with feathers, bows and swarovski crystals.

After getting an Icee, we sat in our seats, looked for other dressed up girls, and waited. The whole theater was alive with excitement and buzz; after months of foreplay – via June’s issue of VOGUE, theatrical trailers, images leaked the same day as shooting, etc – we were finally arriving at the climax. When the opening music started, my heart jumped.

It opens happy, so happy in fact that it’s sort of cheesy. It’s a celebration of SATC, the characters, New York, all of it, and right away it delivers everything we’ve been hoping for and want: marriage, the perfect apartment, fantastic clothes, happiness, beauty, love, and Big. And I swear this is within the first 30 minutes or so.

And while it does give us what we want, the movie makes fun of it at the same time.

Life is just too good and things are a little too perfect…until, of course, everything comes crashing down. My boyfriend felt the movie was really dark and depressing for a long time, which I sort of agree with. All the mopping and dwelling on things could have been cut down a bit, but overall the movie gives you what you think you wanted, then gives you the story, and then gives you back all of the things you love about SATC.

According to Style.com’s Nicole Phelps, “The spectacle Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel staged…at a Los Angeles airfield was so audacious, so over-the-top, it elicited a standing ovation before the first model hit the people mover.” But, well, as someone who did not attend the spectacular-spectacular, all I can say is this collection was just not as fantastic as I thought it was going to be, at all.

The moment I read about the show production, the location, etc, I was excited. I wanted to fly the Coco Chanel skies.

The first few looks were fun and fitting, but then it seemed to go a little too rachel zoe. Some of it was too hippie, some looked a little too hipster, and then some of it looked genuinely good (and that would be basically everything on Raquel or Bruna), but just not so exciting. There were too many eras there for me, and sadly, none of my favorites.

And a lot of the show was the attendees: Lindsey Lohan (enough), Camilla Belle (yay!), the Rodarte girls (why??), and of course, Dita von Teese (again, enough).

What really killed me, however, was the plane’s name: CHANEL LINE. Wow, I mean, what a name. Exciting, no? Um, not so much. Maybe the next resort collection will inspire me a bit more.
