Today, I Die. The Rachel Zoe Project is Back.

Monday, August 24th, 2009

velvet nico Today, I Die. The Rachel Zoe Project is Back.Alright all you fashionistas, listen up: Today (Monday), the second season of The Rachel Zoe Project premiers on Bravo at 10pm.

Although I don’t enjoy the show quite as much as the Real Housewives of New Jersey, the RZP is totally up there in my book. I love everything about the show and the shots of the fashion are just the glittering frosting coating it all.

So strap on a pair of your most fabulous, don some vintage bling, and stick a bow tie on a boy – this guarantees to be bananas. Can’t hardly wait.

mtv-movie-awards-2009-best-fashion-Sienna Miller vs. Leighton Meester vs. Audrina Patridge

While the 2009 MTV Movie Awards proved a rather mind-numbing experience, there were three looks on the red carpet that I simply can’t stop thinking about…

Leighton Meester looked absolutely sublime in her sexy Emilio De La Morena cut-out dress, while Sienna Miller dazzled in a dress from her own collection, the Twenty8Twelve Viviane green Swarovski mini dress, which I must admit was an amazing choice – not only do I adore the color, but the back of the dress was dramatic and the sleeve-length was just right as well. Like Sienna, Audrina Patridge also chose a sparkly sequined number and paired it with rather simple accessories.

Sexy, young, fun and fresh, all three looked amazing and incredibly appropriate for the MTV Movie Awards. Vote for your favorite below and let me know what you thought of the show.

Who deserves the Golden Popcorn for their red carpet style?

Anna Wintour on 60 Minutes

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Just in case you missed 60 Minute’s rather boring, un-inspired feature on Vogue’s Anna Wintour…I was sort of hoping for something a bit more interesting – something a bit more, oh how should I put it? A bit more Vogue.

Another Boy I Want To Marry: Demetri Martin

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Demetri MartinAnd I’m in love again – this time with comedian Demetri Martin.

I would marry him, but since he’s Greek and I’m not a Greek virgin, that probably isn’t going to happen. He also reminds me of several of my ex-boyfriends all at the same time, which is both good and bad. He is adorable, funny, smart. If her reads this, he should comment and ask for my phone number.

Anyway, see below for a bit about Demetri that I rip right off of his fan site:

  • First and foremost, the dude’s name is spelled Demetri Martin. It’s not Demitri. It’s not Dimitri. It’s not Dimetri. It’s D-E-M-E-T-R-I
  • He was born on May 25, 1973 (although he looks younger, which makes him rather perfect)
  • He’s from New Jersey
  • He lives in New York
  • He’s Greek
  • His father was a Greek Orthodox priest. In addition, his parents owned a Greek restaurant. Demetri worked there at some point. In between doing whatever work he did there, he did word puzzles and wrote palindromes.
  • He skateboards on a regular basis around New York
  • He attended Yale University and NYU School of Law on a full scholarship
  • He dropped out of law school to become a comedian. I have never read one single interview with or articDemetri Martin. Person. Comedy Central Specialle about Demetri Martin that did not mention the fact that he dropped out of law school to become a comedian. It is literally never NOT mentioned. Why? I don’t know
  • Demetri enjoys puzzles and puzzle books more than the average person
  • He also enjoys writing palindromes
  • He also likes doing anything involving the rearrangement of words and letters
  • He enjoys words and letters period
  • Demetri Martin is a nerd (Hey, he says so himself.)
  • He married his high school girlfriend
  • They are no longer married
  • Demetri plays many musical instruments

You should watch his Comedy Central special: Demetri Martin. Person. Rent it here.

The 81st Annual Academy Awards…

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

screenshot 09 139x300 The 81st Annual Academy Awards...First off, I really loved the way the Academy had 5 past winners give speeches of praise to the current nominees of the Best Supporting Actor/Actress, and Best Actor/Actress categories before the actual awards were given. What I really didn’t love were the various romance and comedy montages, and the too-long and too many musical numbers.

Now that all that is out of the way, on to the fashion! There were a lot of white/ivory/shimmery gowns, a few pinky/purple ones (yes, you Natalie Portman in your Rodarte and Alicia Keys in Versace), and of course some refreshing shades of blue (Freida Pinto in John Galliano and Reese Witherspoon).

Penelope Cruz looked like a princess in her vintage Balmain, while Anne Hathaway absolutely dazzled in a sequined Armani Privé number; Sarah Jessica Parker’s Dior Couture gown wasn’t as good as some of what she wore during the last season of SATC, but sparkled nonetheless – her hair and make-up, however, was less than spectacular, but when you’ve got that much cleavage, I guess it really doesn’t matter; Marissa Tomei’s Versace origami-inspired gown was definitely a cut above the rest; and of course Angelina Jolie looked fabulous in her Elie Saab gown and 65-karat Colombian emerald ring and 115-karat emerald earrings by Lorraine Schwartz, while poor Jennifer Aniston looked completely out of her element despite wearing Valentino Haute Couture and Bulgari diamonds. Click below for a few ladies that looked lovely, and be sure to visit Yahoo’s coverage of the 81st Annual Academy Awards for more images.

Did you watch the awards? What did you think? Boring? Exciting? Predictable? Who gets your vote for best dressed of the night?

No Sleep till Brooklyn: The Real World

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

rwbrooklyn thumb No Sleep till Brooklyn: The Real WorldCalifornication last night,
the Real World Brooklyn tonight.

Why Brooklyn, you ask? Jon Murray, co-creator of The Real World, and Chairman and President of Bunim-Murray Productions, explains: “The Brooklyn season, like the Hollywood season, will focus on what people loved about ‘The Real World’ when it launched in 1992 – genuine people, meaningful conflict and powerful stories…” I don’t remember the Hollywood season being about genuine people or meaningful conflict or anything, but whatever. After watching the first two episodes of the RW Brooklyn, I’ll definitely watch the next few.

This season there are 8 cast members (when there are usually 7) and I feel like that alone may help things balance out better. And surprisingly, there aren’t too many fake tits or bad dye jobs this time around – the cast really does seem a little more ‘real’ than it has in a while. I’m loving MTV for bringing a transgendered girl into the house and I’m already falling for JD, although he obviously needs to loosen up. Also, the cast members weren’t given a specific dream job, but supposedly volunteer at a LGBT Community Center, which will benefit them much more than some fake job at a radio station ever could.

I guess we’ll just have to see how the season unfolds. Are you watching this season? What do you think of it so far?

All Talk…

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I find that on the days that I talk the most, I am able to write the least – as if all that was in my head slipped through my lips, thus drying them out and creating an empty void that can only be filled with sleep and time spent with my son. ok, and maybe a new pair of heels.

Anyway, I have talked a lot in the last few days and clearly have not much to say this evening, although I did begin watching the second season of Californication, thanks to the efforts of one of my darling ex-boyfriends. All I have to say is that I absolutely love the show. If you haven’t watched the first season, you should. And then, the second season.

Good night now dear readers, here’s to less talking tomorrow.

And Now…the Golden Globes

Monday, January 12th, 2009

screenshot 12 227x300 And Now...the Golden GlobesJust when I was feeling great about my breasts due to a new bra purchase at Victoria’s Secret (which is having their huge semi-annual sale right now) I had to go and watch the Golden Globes.

Damn you Salma Hayek.

Anyway here’s a quick re-cap in case you missed it:
Best Motion Picture, Drama: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Performance by an Actress, Drama: Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road
Best Performance by an Actor, Drama: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Best Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy: Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Best Performance by an Actress, Comedy: Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky
Best Performance by an Actor, Comedy: Colin Farrell, In Bruges
Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Best Television Series, Drama: Mad Men
Best Television Series, Musical/Comedy: 30 Rock

I’m dying to see Revolutionary Road and love love Kate Winslet in general.
Also loved Vicky Cristina Barcelona and am happy it won.

Now, the Golden Globes were a bigger deal than usual this year due to last year’s cancellation and the stars certainly poured on the glam factor. Kate Winslet looked beautifully classic. Elizabeth Banks looked gorgeous in a champagne J. Mendel gown. Maggie Gyllenhaal looked spectacular in Lanvin. J.Lo looked like a golden goddess. Eva Mendes and Drew Barrymore wore stunning dresses by John Galliano for Dior. And of course Sasha Fierce Beyonce looked bootylicious in Elie Saab. Click below for some images and let me know which looks you love the most…

The City, You Mean My City?

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

screenshot 02 The City, You Mean My City?Tonight I was deeply enjoying MTV’s Bromance – the show where the absolutely adorable Brody Jenner is looking to add another guy to his entourage – and then…

The City came on. Damn. It.

The thing is, everyone and their brother has been asking me what I thought of the first episode of The City (seriously), and (up until about 30 minutes ago) I hadn’t seen it and had no intention of seeing it. Although I’ve been a steady viewer of The Hills, everything about The City is just a little too close to home for me and turned me off.

First of all, the name annoys me. The City? Just The City? What about Sex and the City? Is Whitey so boring that there is nothing else interesting about the show other than New York itself? Just image SATC centered around Charlotte, minus Samantha. Yawn. Have any of you ever read Samuel R. Delany’s Trouble on Triton? Really great book. If you have, compare Whitney to Bron Helstrom.

Also, the city happens to be my city – and in this show it looks waaay too shiny, clean, and un-New York all around.

And Whitney doesn’t really work in fashion, I do. I’ve really worked fashion week and when Whitney just stands around backstage looking pretty, well, that is not working fashion week. People who really work fashion week look like Kelly Cutrone (who is by far the best ‘character’ on the show).screenshot 05 The City, You Mean My City?

Hell, I’ve even been on dates at the same places Whitney is going to! Also, did any one else notice Whitney’s affinity for that backless dress silhouette? Is it DVF? I’ll figure it out and get back to you on that…

Oh! And what the hell is with her and Olivia Palermo acting like they don’t know who each other are? Are you kidding me? No, actually, you are not. At all. And I also think it’s weird how, over dinner at Phillipe or somewhere, Olivia and her ugly guy friend are talking about Whitney as if she’s Tai from Clueless. Like Whitney really needs a makeover and their help to keep her from falling into the horrible downtown crowd.

So there you go – you’ve all been asking and that is what I think of The City. I’ll watch the damn show again and will keep you posted on my feelings as heart-pounding episodes continue.

Random Musings during the AMAs

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

And now, some of my very random musings during tonight’s 2008 American Music Awards:

  • Jimmy Kimmel is just not a good host and he looks almost cross-eyed tonight
  • AHH! I missed half of it?! Damn. I should get TiVo.
  • Beyonce’s black and white sort of Viktor & Rolf-meets-Gareth Pugh jacket is hot. She’s awesome. I want her body. I love her new song Single Ladies – no wonder Jay-Z finally put a ring on it. And her back-up dancers? Damn.
  • Wait a sec…I know that dress! Is Mariah Carey actually wearing the same Dolce dress that Kim from The Real Housewives of Atlanta wore to DeShawn’s Night of a Thousand Stars gala event? Didn’t anyone tell her? Oh, and why is poor Nick Cannon helping her down from the stairs and kissing her hand? I guess it’s meant to be sweet?
  • Woah – Natasha Bedingfield should fire her stylist. The hair and the ill-fitting tux is awful; the red dress is just ok at best. How old is she anyway? Is the The Hills on?
  • The Pussy Cat Dolls should not wear patent leather – too obvious and way too shiny
  • Rihanna looks like a cupcake getting ready to marry Karl Lagerfeld in her founcy Giambattista Valli-like layered dress. Cute, but too short. Hate the gloves.
  • Now she’s wearing a crystal eye-patch for her performance for the Justin Timberlake-written song, Rehab? Really Rihanna, we know you’re cool, but the eye-patch, spikes, chains, faux-hock, big flame bursts – it’s all just a little much don’t you think? She doesn’t still need to try that hard – or does she?
  • The Jonas Brothers really are pretty cute boys.
  • Alicia Keys looks lovely and sounds great – but why does she keep bringing her purse up on stage each time she accepts an award? She’s either the new face of Judith Leiber or must be expecting a really important call.
  • Annie Lenox is awesome, no wonder my mom used to listen to her all the time.
  • Kanye West needs a haircut.
  • There are soo many Disney artists out now. I feel old. Miley Cyrus is really just turning 16?! I feel really old. Taylor Swift is odd looking, but still pretty. I should really put on a moisturizing mask now…
  • Chris Brown just won artist of the year? Really?
  • Ok, now I want ice cream.

See below for pictures and judge for yourself…

RIP TRL: The End of an Era

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

RIP TRL: Britney Spears Baby One More Time #1 Video of All TimeToday I ordered pizza, played with my new bangs, and munched on Doritos while watching MTV’s TRL Total Final Live! – a special presentation celebrating 10 fabulous years of TRL.

Carson Daly was back to host the final episode with Damien Fahey and the whole show quickly became one big happy reunion.

Britney Spears was dubbed the ‘Queen of TRL’ and Baby One More Time was chosen as the most important video in TRL history. Beyonce gave an amazingly bootylicious performance in a leather jacket that was totally bananas. Kid Rock stopped by while smoking and drinking. Miley Cyrus was there and was so annoying that they kept her in the photo booth. Puffy/Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Diddy/Etc added one more appearance to his list on the show, this time he even pretended to cry. Ludacris performed with Nelly and Snoop. 50 cent brought the house down in a bedazzled red leather jacket. And OMG – do you remember the ‘I wanna be a VJ’ contest and the winner Jesse Camp?! Yep, he was there too, although he didn’t look quite as weird as he first did years ago. Even Backstreet was back (and now I’m sitting here happily singing “I want it that way!”).

Hmm…I guess MTV really is finished with music…no wonder they recently launched MTVMusic.com. Maybe they needed to make room for Whitney Port’s new ‘reality’ show The City. Anyway, in honor of the last episode ever of TRL, let’s take a look at what a few past and current MTV TRL VJs are up to now:

  • Carson Daly – now hosts Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC
  • Damien Fahey – is also a drummer and possibly my future husband
  • Vanessa Minnillo – the former Miss Teen USA wore a starry-eyed surprise to the finale, is currently dating Nick Lachey, hosting the new reality competition called True Beauty, and also working on various acting projects
  • Susie Castillo – this former Miss USA is now the spokesperson for Neutrogena, is the host of ABC Family’s America’s Prom Queen, and is starting to pop up on shows and in movies
  • Dave Holmes – the guys who came in second on MTV’s first I Wanna Be a VJ contest is now an actor and even made it on a show I find ridiculously funny, Reno 911
  • Hilarie Burton – she won a chance to report live from the VMA carpet in 2000 which led to hosting duties on TRL and can now be seen on the WB’s One Tree Hill as Peyton
  • La La Vasquez -former DJ turned VJ, La La is now married to Carmelo Anthony and has an adorable son – she was also recently photographed for Sports Illustrated
  • Quddus – this cutie is (surprise, surprise!) busy working on an acting career

Even though I haven’t watched TRL in years, I’m going to miss it. For a look at the night’s fashion hits & misses, see what the ever-so-kind ladies at Jezebel have to say…

Ahhhh Yeah! MTVMusic.com is Alive and Kickin’

Friday, November 7th, 2008

MTVMusic.com launches today and I love it!Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my MTV – have since I was about 14 and I probably always will – yes, the Hills, True Life, all of it really except for TRL (because I’m not 12), Next, and Parental Control. And even though I love the reality programing, I really do miss watching hour upon hour of music videos (and yes, I know MTV2 exists and whatnot, but I just don’t watch triple-digit channels).

Well today MTV launched MTVMusic.com and it has already set my morning back by about 30 minutes! You can watch practically any music video on the new super clean site and comment on the videos directly – and they load pretty quickly which is nice.

Ahh…I feel like all is finally going right in this world: Obama is our President-Elect and MTV is back to being MTV (at least online anyway).

Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight Tonight
Green Day – Longview
Weezer – El Scorcho
Beastie Boys – Fight for Your Right (To Party)
Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood
Madonnna – Open Your Heart
a-ha – Take on Me
