Very Good Days

There are bad days, and there are good days, and then there are very good days. Yesterday was a very good day. Today was a very good day. They were both very, very happy days.

Yesterday was all about the beach, chasing waves, and spending time with good friends. It was incredibly relaxing, incredibly refreshing, and just a much needed change of scenery.

Today was all about retail therapy back in the city. I needed it and so did two of my friends. We walked into Saks and after looking at the sad graveyard of purses on sale, we made our way up to mecca on the 8th floor. The minute we hit the floor we split up - this was not about shopping together, it was about the need for shoes. I walked by hundreds of shoes on sale in size 11…10…9…and finally made it to size 8. I instantly spied 3 pairs of Prada black sandals, some white patent slides, etc. I tried all of them on and felt unfulfilled. Then I remembered the white Gucci pumps and started searching for them - I walked around the entire 10022-SHOE zip code looking for the damn things before something much more interesting caught my eye…

There, on one of the tables, surrounded by patent leather upon patent leather, were the only pair of Roger Vivier I’ve ever wanted to try on. Mesmerized by the perfect pattern of gray and white, I slipped on the right side, stood in front of the mirror and knew instantly that these were the shoes I had to have. I immediately told Barbie (my sales associate) that I would take them and started to clap a little bit in sheer delight. The girls picked up lovely pairs of gold Michael Kors sandals and black Prada strappy ones. We walked out with bags in hand, smiling and genuinely happy.

It is amazing how new shoes provide an instant feeling of elation and how a collective shopping experience can bring us up to cloud 9. I even went home and rearranged all of my shoes, putting the new Vivier pumps in the middle of my rainbow Moschino peep-toes and my perfect green & pink Prada pumps.
